Ezetimibe

Ezetimibe is a cholesterol absorption inhibitors. It reduces the cholesterol absorption from the intestine and lowers the levels of total cholesterol and “bad” cholesterol (LDL) in the blood.
Key Properties:
  • Chemical Name: (3R,4S)-1-(4-fluorophenyl)-3-[(S)-3-(4-fluorophenyl)-3-hydroxypropyl]-4-(4-hydroxyphenyl)azetidin-2-one.
  • CAS Number: 163222-33-1
  • Molecular Formula: C24H21F2NO3
  • Molecular Weight: 409.4 g/mol
  • Appearance: Ezetimibe API is generally a crystalline white to off white powder.
  • Solubility:  Ezetimibe API is practically insoluble. Its solubility in distilled water is around 0.00846 ± 0.5 mg/ml.
  • Mechanism of Action: By inhibiting NPC1L1, Ezetimibe API prevents the absorption of dietary and biliary cholesterol, reducing the amount of cholesterol reaching the liver.
  • Bioavailability: The absolute bioavailability of Ezetimibe API cannot be determined
  • Half-life: The half-life of Ezetimibe API is approximately 22 hours.
  • Metabolism: The primary metabolite of Ezetimibe API is ezetimibe glucuronide, which is known as SCH 60663.
  • Uses: Ezetimibe API indicated to reduce total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein (LDL), apolipoprotein B (apo B), and non-high-density lipoprotein (HDL) in patients with primary hyperlipidemia, mixed hyperlipidemia, familial hypercholesterolemia (HoFH), and homozygous sitosterolemia (phytosterolemia).
